Seek shade

Remember that the sun's beams are at their greatest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when seeking shade. Additionally, you can view your shadow. Whenever your shadow is shorter than you, you should seek shade.

Wear sun-protective clothing

Whenever possible, wear a lightweight long-sleeved shirt, trousers, a wide-brimmed hat, and eyewear with UV protection. Choose garments with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) number for increased effectiveness.

Apply sunscreen

Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to any exposed skin. Reapply every two hours or after swimming or perspiring.
