THE WARMER WEATHER IS HERE – TIME TO WORKŌŪṬ IN THE FRESH AIR!

With the weather warming and the lengthening and brightening of the days, this is the ideal time of year to exercise outdoors. Instead of going to the gym this week, try exercising in the open air. Here are four good reasons why you should workout in the fresh air.

Why you should Workout in the Fresh Air

It’s mentally stimulating.

In addition to your sessions at Genesis, take your workout outside and stimulate your mind as well as your body. Mixing up your environment is great to keep your mind and body stimulated! Outside you’re able to people-watch, bird-watch, and be amongst nature. A well-located outdoor workout will keep your attention elsewhere while you stretch, squat, jump, and bend.

Your body will work harder.

You’re pretty limited on the treadmill and elliptical. Even though you can adjust the incline, nothing beats the complex terrain of the outdoors. Moving your own body forward rather than running in place with a rollinw belt beneath you forces more exertion, improves balance and agility, and burns more calories. Wind resistance can also help you to use more energy. Working out outside promotes ‘muscle confusion’ that helps your body to burn more calories.

You get out in the sunshine.

Exposure to the sun’s rays releases the serotonin hormone in the brain. This is associated with boosting your mood and helping you to feel calm and focused. What’s more, the fresh air will give you energy! Just 20 minutes of working out outside is equivalent to drinking one cup of coffee in regards to its energy-boosting effects. This combined with the endorphins your body releases when you exercise will lift your mood.
